This image was taken from the Staten Island ferry in 1999, the World Trade centre visible amongst the blur.
The movement is partly due to the rhythm of the boat, but mainly due to me beginning to fall dizzily in love with a Swedish girl named Lena, standing next to me when the image was taken.
We were married three years later. I feel New York played a part in that. We were there several times during the early days of our relationship. The memories of those times are still strong and vibrant.
The Towers fell two years after this image was taken.
It's always been an emotional image for me, in many ways.
A time machine.
